POSTPARTUM MASSAGE

Alisha offers a unique service at Whitewave Bodywork called Postpartum Massage. During this session, she pulls together traditional practices from a variety of cultures designed to nurture and heal new mothers after childbirth. These practices involve multiple aspects of warmth-based care to restore the mother’s energy, balance their body, and promote healing.

Warmth and rejuvenation are at the heart of this service, which some would refer to as mother roasting. Warming the mother's body, which is believed to be "cold" or depleted after childbirth, helps to improve circulation, soothe sore muscles, and support the healing process.

What are some reasons a mother would book this service?

Physical Recovery: After childbirth, a woman's body undergoes significant changes. Postpartum massage helps to alleviate muscle tension, reduce swelling, and promote the body's natural healing processes. It can also aid in the alignment of the pelvis and uterus.

Emotional Wellbeing: This session is as much about emotional recovery as it is physical. The warmth and care provided can offer comfort, reduce postpartum depression or anxiety, and create a space for the mother to reconnect with her body.

Hormonal Balance: The massage and warmth can stimulate the release of oxytocin, the "love hormone," which helps with breastfeeding and bonding with the baby.

What does a Postpartum Massage Include?:

Warming Massage Techniques: warming oil applications, and gentle, rhythmic strokes to soothe and heal.

Herbal Treatments: Warm compresses infused with healing herbs to restore balance and energy.

Body Wrapping: The mother is wrapped in a cocoon to close and heal the emotional, spiritual, and physical gateways opened by birth.

Relaxation Practices: Guided breathing or meditation may be included to help the mother relax and center herself.

Overall, this type of postpartum care is deeply rooted in nurturing traditions, aiming to support a mother's complete recovery.
